Summer Fun

Reading Programmes

Looking for something to keep your children and teenagers engaged in their reading throughout these summer holidays? We have just the programmes for you! Our summer reading programmes will help grow the love of reading in a fun and rewarding way.

Who is it for?

Ngā Kaipānui Pounamu – Treasured Readers is for 4 to 10-year-olds and Ngā Kaipānui Taiohi – Chiefs of Reading is for ages 10 and up.

How does it work?

Once you’ve registered, pop into either Napier or Taradale library to collect the reading folder. Participants can read on their own, with friends or with a grown-up, then they can bring a book they’ve read and their reading folder into either library, talk to a librarian about their book, and receive a sticker. Both programmes offer prize draws—the more books you read, the more chances you have to win!

Check-ins are available in both of our branches and online. If Covid-19 restrictions change, some features of our reading programme may look different. We’ll let you know of any changes on our Facebook page.
