Free Digital Skills Workshops

Digital Workshops at Napier LibrariesNapier Libraries, in partnership with Stepping Up: Digital Skills for Life and Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa, have put together a range of free digital skills workshops for the community.

These workshops cover a selection of topics including smartphones, eBooks and internet banking, how to access free movies using Kanopy, reading newspapers & magazines online, keeping safe online, and using video calls and messaging apps to keep connected with friends and family. These topics vary term to term.

If you book into a class but then cannot attend, please contact us so that we can offer your place to someone on the waiting list.

 Many of the classes are repeated. If you attend more than one session with the same name you will be going over the same information.

Tues 18th May Taradale 10am-12pm Internet Banking This workshop is to provide knowledge and confidence to people moving into online banking. Topics covered include how to recognise the signs of an online scam and what to do, and starting to navigate through an online banking platform. No personal financial information is required to participate.
Thurs 20th May Taradale 10am-12pm iPads/Tablets Basic tuition to get you started with using your iPad/tablet and a few tips and tricks you may not know.
Thurs 20th May Taradale 1pm-3pm Intermediate Genealogy For those already confident in basic genealogy this class explores other useful websites and provides further helpful information with an emphasis on resources available through Napier Libraries.  Areas covered include cemetery searches, records held by Napier Libraries and other council facilities, and alternative places to locate information.
Tues 25th May Taradale 10am-12pm Internet Banking This workshop is to provide knowledge and confidence to people moving into online banking. Thurs 27th May Taradale 10-11am Zoom *New mini class* Learn how to download and navigate Zoom to make and join calls. 
Tues 1st June Taradale 10-10:45am Managing Computer Files  *New mini class* Learn how to find files on your computer, how to move them, create folders, and more!
Thurs 3rd June Taradale 10am-12pm Smartphones Basic tuition to get you started with using your cellphone and a few tips and tricks you may not know.
Tues 8th June Taradale 10-10:45am Using Google docs *New mini class* Learn how to create, save, and edit a variety of documents.
Thurs 10th June Taradale 10am-12pm Smartphones Basic tuition to get you started with using your tablet/iPad and a few tips and tricks you may not know.
Tues 15th June Taradale 1pm-3pm Local History Designed for those new to local history, this class explores the resources available through Napier Libraries, along with some tips and tricks to help you along your research journey.

Tues 6th July Taradale 10-10:45am Using Spydus mobile *New mini class* Get to know our library app, Spydus Mobile. Use it to issue books, check due dates, renew items and more!
Tues 10th August Taradale 10am-12pm Introduction to Genealogy Designed for those new to family research, this class will show you how to search effectively and explore different features of 4 popular genealogy websites.

Napier Library to reopen Tuesday 13 April
Napier Library will reopen to the public on Tuesday 13th April. Remedial works on the sprinkler system in the area of the MTG building that is occupied by the library are now complete. Napier Library staff are pleased that they’ll be back soon and are looking forward to welcoming the community once more.
