Humanitarian Law Collection
We are very proud that Napier Library holds The International Humanitarian Law Book Collection, which is housed and displayed beside the Robson Collection on Restorative Justice in Reference on the first floor.
The International Humanitarian Law Book Collection helps to make sense of and points the way to combating the effects of the calamities and insanities of crimes against humanity throughout our world.
On the 12th March 2006 Lady Keith, National President New Zealand Red Cross, Vice-President Penny Mason, Roderic Alley, Chairman Dissemination Committee, Inko Mihaylov, Cooperation Manager ICRC, Simon Missiri, Federation Pacific Desk, members of the Hawke's Bay legal profession, local Red Cross members and representatives from Napier Public Libraries gathered in the Library Seminar Room of the Napier City Council to launch the housing of the International Humanitarian Law Book Collection at the Napier Public Library.
Members and branches of the Red Cross Society and the legal profession throughout Hawke's Bay donated the collection which currently numbers just over 250 books. It is a well-used and valued resource for people world-wide. Napier Libraries are very grateful that additional items are regularly donated to the collection by those associated with the Red Cross.
