Why are new books taking longer to arrive?
The answer is COVID-19! With the reduction in overseas travel, air freight is no longer an option to ship new books. This means that titles published in the US or UK are being shipped by sea – usually an 8-12 week journey. On top of that, ports around the world are seeing delays and backlogs due to the massive increase in freight coming their way.
As you can imagine, this is creating a bit of havoc in the publishing world. Publishers are having to work with new printers to publish some titles, change release dates, or even delay publishing some titles indefinitely. Library staff are working hard to keep the catalogue updated with changing due dates as we receive notifications. By placing a free reserve on a title you wish to read, you can rest assured that we will let you know as soon as we have the title available to borrow.
If you can’t wait to read the latest title from your favourite author, why not try an reading an eBook or listening to an eAudio Book? To find out more, take a look at our eBooks and eAudio Books webpage.
