Max's wild things, wild things with purple prickles, wild things with scales. Join us for stories and songs about our favourite wild things, with a craft to follow.

At Napier Library we will be exploding the Minecraft Club hours these holidays by adding another whole hour.

Join us for stories and crafts celebrating 'Beast Friends'. Create your own 'Beast-Friend' with us at the Library.

Our Last Hurrah!

Mary Kippenberger’s storytimes always attract huge crowds! You may find yourself suddenly transformed into a prince; a crocodile; or a magic fish waiting to grant wishes…

Jake’s Ancient Animals

Taradale Library: 8th January 2:00pm

Jake from the Aquarium will come to show us remains of the animals that once walked and swam in the hot, prehistoric world… including the mighty Spinosaurus!

Will suit children of four and up.

 

Little Dog Barking

Asher Hall (St. Paul’s): 9th January 11:00am

Taradale Library: 9th January 2:00pm.

In this wonderful introduction to theatre for young children, the Little Dog Barking theatre company performs their production of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, a simple story about childhood, age, and memory.

Will suit younger children of three years and up.

 

Hands-on Music

Asher Hall (St. Paul’s): 11th January 2:00pm

Anthony from The Groove Foundation will be bringing a range of musical instruments for you to try out. Have a turn playing the electric guitar, the snare drum, the banjo, or the double bass!

Suit ages four and up.

 

Mask Making

Museum and Taradale library: 12th January 10am to 12pm

Come in anytime between ten and midday and become a big cat, a monkey, a crocodile, or some other savage beast.

Suit ages four and up.

 

The Jungle Trail Hunt

16th January 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Botanical Gardens

Follow the jungle trail and spot the wild animals hidden among the trees. Rewards for every successful team! Remember to bring your sun-hat, water bottle, and an adult.

Summer Reading Programme participants — before you begin (or after you’ve finished) come and do a report-in on the big lawn. Please note that there will be no in-library report-ins on this afternoon.

This event is weather-dependant, so if the sky is overcast on the day check our website to see if we’re still going ahead.

Jungle stories and animal songs will abound at our jungle storytime for younger kids.

Is it real or fake? You decide, then make up a name for the species!

We’ll draw a winner from the correct real or fake answers, but our favourite names may win a prize too…

A different challenge each week during the summer

Minecraft

Every Friday afternoon from 3:30pm to 4:30pm; at the Napier Library before Christmas [except for the 22nd? ], at the Museum after Christmas.

Minecraft: A safe, supervised shared Minecraft world for kids. Participants will need to bring their own tablet or iPad with the latest version of Minecraft pocket edition loaded on it.

 

Magic: the Gathering

Every Friday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm; at the Napier Library before Christmas [except for the 22nd? ], at the Museum after Christmas.

Magic: the Gathering: An exciting fantasy card game for both beginners and aficionados. Tutorials available.
